So,

It's taken me several days to get the enthusiasm to write this post.
Last Thursday I took a friend along  to our fortnightly meet at the Firebrand.
We ordered a pint and played for about an hour before deciding to call it a day..Nobody turned up...
After weeks of advertising via Facebook, Firebrand, Twitter, This blogg, Wozzon, Pirate FM , UKBGF, BIBA , Launceston 2020  and word of mouth the result is that nobody could be arsed to drag themselves away from Eastenders for the evening.

In total, since I began five people have come along.
1 player that had traveled  about 14 miles to be there.( Thanks for making the effort)
The rest were all associated with Firebrand, so had inside knowledge and were coming along to make up the numbers.
Is it worth it I'm thinking..
Well I am going to continue with the Launceston meeting every two weeks  but I'm thinking that I may try a different tack on the alternate week.
I am going to pick a suitable pub and advertise that I will be there for a game if anyone wants to pop along. That way it makes it more interesting for me as well as the added possibility that someone local to the pub may come along.

Watch this blogg for details.

An important Backgammon Lesson....

A very important Backgammon lesson was learnt last night..

The lesson is this.

.
.
Never drink several pints of this....

                                                    While trying to play this...

                                                  The results are not good..

                                           Be safe...Don't drink and Backgammon

Warm up

I spent a very enjoyable evening down our local pub "The Pint & Post" giving a friend a Backgammon refresher.
I have convinced him to come along to the Firebrand  tomorrow/Thursday..I'm not sure if he is more interested in the Backgammon or the ale on offer. Whichever, i'm sure it will be a good evening.

I was going to try and get some pictures of tonights games but things being as they are I forgot my camera, and my phone is rubbish at pictures so maybe next time.

If you fancy a game why not pop along to the firebrand 19:30 -- 21:30
All welcome...

Pre meeting warm up.

Well it's come around quick..This Thursday 14th it's Backgammon at the FIREBRAND.
I'm hoping to bring along a friend who hasn't played for years. He's not sure and wavering on the sidelines so we are popping along to our local on Wednesday for a refresher game....And maybe a pint or two..

If I remember to take my camera. (yes I still use an old fashioned camera rather than a phone) I will try to post some pre-meeting warm up pictures.

Backgammon Tips.

When this little book arrived in the post I was a little surprised at its size.... It's small...
However it's packed with helpful hints and tips to make you a better player.

The book contains 50 pearls of wisdom.
One per page.

Amazon Description:
The Little Book of Backgammon Tips by Chris Jones shows how a simple understanding of the dice-throw can improve your every move. There's advice on opening throws, how (and when) to block and run, hitting and being hit, bearing off, back games, using the doubling cube, and lots more. You're odds-on to double and redouble your success with this Little Book on board.

I enjoyed reading this little book. It's not the sort of book to read in one sitting because you just can't take all the tips in at once.
So I have it on the table next to me while watching T.V. and when there is a dip in program quality I pick it up and dive in.
The ideal book for someone like me who needs to up their game rather than plod along losing as many as I'm winning.
Well worth buying..

An Amazon Review..

By Mr. Colin Mcelhatton on 12 Feb. 2013

This book feels like a collection of Zen teachings. It's all sound knowledge but ultra concise. Rather than a book for beginners I would prefer to think of this book as a mind jogger aimed at helping you remember concepts. It's like having a terse study guide to a vast body of knowledge. You would not use this book on its own but together with other literature on the subject it could help you memorize key concepts.
