After much murmurings and scratching of head I finally worked out how to create a Facebook page and as a bonus a Facebook event page.

UKBGF Membership number 1

Recently the UKBGF have announced that they will be starting to accept members to this new organization.
They recently auctioned off membership number 1 at their scope charity tournament raising a very substantial £1700.00 for scope.
The winning bidder was James Ramsey who now has lifetime membership as well as member number 1..

Many congratulations from Cornwall.

They are now going to auction off the higher numbers as a wanted "cherished" number e.g. 007 etc.
So if you are interested before the "normal" membership opens then pop over to their website for details.

If, like me you just want normal membership as you don't have buckets of cash down the back of the sofa. Then membership opens on April 1st..
 

Facebook club page coming soon.

I'm hoping to set up a Facebook page today for the Launceston club. It seems strange to be posting here and on twitter then soon on Facebook when we haven't had our first meeting yet.
But it's all good advertising..If people don't know about the club I suppose I cant moan if nobody turns up.

First get together will be Thursday 16th April at the firebrand Launceston.

Although I intend to be playing some Backgammon on the day, I'm thinking that the first meeting will be more of an indicator of who is interested in coming along to future meetings. Mainly to give me a guide of just how many Backgammon sets will be needed at meetings.

If you are intending to come and you have a set, feel free to bring it along to play with.

Hoping to see you there......It would be great if you could post a comment below if you are intending to come. Just so that I have an idea of numbers.....

There will be chess too

It's been a day or two since I posted here. Mainly because we are still counting down to our first meeting on the 16th April and there is not much to tell yet.

If you are interested in chess there will now be a weekly chess club meeting at the Firebrand bar starting on the 15th April. See advert above for details.

If you can make it to our first Backgammon meeting all are welcome whatever level of play you are at.. Beginner to Pro. Or just pop along for a chat and a drink..

Good News.

Well good news.. It's Happening..

This evening I visited firebrand bar and restaurant to talk to Alex about hosting our new club once a fortnight.
The result is that on Thursday April 16th the first meeting of the new Launceston Backgammon club will take place
19:30 - 21:30 in the Firebrand bar.

The bar area has several tables ideal for our purposes so if you are an old hand or a complete newcomer please come along.

I sent off an e-mail the other day to UKBGF...(The UK Backgammon Federation) explaining what I was trying to do here in Cornwall.
They posted back the next day asking for the results of my meeting with the bar that was offering a place to meet, saying that when I have a date for the first meeting they would post it on their site.
They also asked if I wanted to write something for their blogg about the first meeting results and the whole experience of trying to set up a new club.
Tomorrow evening (wed) is the day of my meeting with the bar manager to set a date. So watch this space for more details.

The Rules Of The Game

If you are interested in coming along and having a game but are not sure of the rules this link will whisk you over to Backgammon Galore's website where all will become clear.

It's a great game that is much understood.. Not a simple race around the board as would first appear but a game filled with strategy. A game where a pure novice can beat a seasoned pro simply by rolling better dice. but will lose to the pro over several games because of a better understanding of the strategy of the game..

New Backgammon Club in Launceston..

Hello and welcome.
I am at present in the process of trying to start a Backgammon club in my home town of Launceston, Cornwall.
After opening a Twitter account to serve the club and tweeting my intentions I have received an invite from a local bar to host the new club.
I am going along to have a chat with the owner this Wednesday and hope to set a date for our first meeting.
Our first meeting should be mid April. This should allow time to advertise via Twitter/Facebook etc.
